Captain Phillips

Fellow infidels,

Constantine has done a movie review of the movie “Captain Phillips.”  Please read and enjoy – Burkasrugly

This last weekend I saw the movie Captain Phillips on DVD. The movie is based on the real life story of the Somali pirate attack on the merchant ship Maersk Alabama in 2009. Much of the movie is based on Captain Phillips’ book, “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALS and Dangerous Days at Sea.” Tom Hanks does a superb job of acting as Captain Phillips. And so do the four Somalis who have the roles of the hijackers. It is my understanding that this was their first ever movie.

The movie tells the real story of the U.S. Merchant Marine. In World War II the U.S. Merchant Marine suffered the highest percentage of combat deaths (over 11%) than did the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Marines or Army Air Corp. Those services had a combined mortality rate of 2.5%. Merchant Marine sailors actually volunteered for the U.S. Navy because it was less dangerous. But in World War II nearly all of our merchant ships were armed with naval gunnery crews, not the Maersk Alabama.

In 2009 Somali pirates captured 117 ships of all nationalities. Notice I used the word captured. In that year probably over 300 ships were attacked but managed somehow to fend off their attackers. In 2009 most ports did not allow armed ships to dock. Arms were defined as any type of firearm. Pistols, rifles and shotguns were considered weapons and were banned from merchant ships. It was the equivalent of telling the criminals that schools, churches, and hospitals are gun free zones. Only law-abiding citizens don’t bring weapons into gun free zones, criminals don’t care. The pirates knew they would be the only armed people when they attacked a merchant ship.

The Maersk Alabama had the dubious distinction of the being the first U.S. flagged ship to be captured by pirates since the end of the Second Barbary Pirate War (Hmm, didn’t that war have Islamic pirates also. Go figure.) The ship which was a container vessel
over 650 feet long was attacked by four pirates in a 24 foot long wooden skiff. They were armed with AK-47s and semi-auto pistols. There is a scene in which the pirates are boarding the ship. I kept thinking what if the crew had a few World II M-1 Garand rifles, or a couple 12 gauge pump shotguns, or just a few .38 revolvers. The pirates would have been dead meat as they clambered up the home-made boarding ladder.

The crew was very inventive in fashioning weapons out of every day items. They used pocket knives, iron pipes and broken glass as weapons. Somali pirates often go bare footed. There is a scene in the movie where a pirate steps on broken glass badly lacerating his feet. The crew manages to capture the pirate chieftain in hopes of exchanging him for Captain Phillips. But the situation between the crew and the pirates turned real ugly fast.To keep his crew safe Phillips volunteers to go with the pirates in a covered motorized life boat.

The four Islamic idiots actually needed Captain Phillips to help them operate the high-tech life boat. Captain Phillips does a reverse Stockholm syndrome on the pirates. A day later the U.S. Navy arrives with a complement of two destroyers and a helicopter assault ship. The movie ends with the Navy SEALs making a series of simultaneous headshots killing the pirates almost instantly. No easy feat. The shots were at a distance of 125 meters in the dark taken from the bobbing deck of the destroyer to the bobbing enclosed life boat. Everything was in motion. There was absolutely no room for error. The surviving pirate who was lured to the destroyer earlier was captured. After his trial he was sentenced to
39 years in prison.

In 2013 one ship was captured by the Somali pirates. Now armed guards are allowed in almost any port. Muslim savages never attack where there is armed resistance waiting. They prefer to prey on helpless people. (President Obama you need to learn this lesson.)

Jihad has many facets. It can be armed struggle against infidels on the land. On the open seas it always takes the form of piracy. Payment for the release of ships and hostages is just another form of extorting money from the infidels. In this case, at least, three Muslim pirates paid the ultimate price for their folly.

I wish the movie would have made more overt references to the savage ideology of Islamic extremism, but I guess the PC censors of Hollywood would have gotten their panties in a wad. Still it was a good movie show casing the highly skilled professionalism of our great military.

The movie is now out on DVD. Go rent it.

In hoc sign vinces,

Constantine
